Why Use a Facial Serum?

June 14, 2013
C_serum-bottle_and_box So we all know that you need to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face on a daily basis, but what about facial serums? Even some beauty buffs are at a loss when trying to figure out if they need a serum, what type of serum to use, and what these little bottles of beauty potion even do! Well, luckily we have the answers to all of these questions!   First, let’s get the facts straight on what a facial serum is; these beauty must-haves pack some powerful benefits. Serums are formulated with a higher concentration of active ingredients and smaller molecules that have the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin. Sounds pretty great, right? This particular type of product is what should be used when you want to target a specific skincare concern. They are designed to provide strong results by penetrating nutrients as far as they can go into the skin. Think of a serum as a vitamin for your complexion, the more nutrition you provide to your skin the better it will appear! Serums are not meant to replace moisturizers, because serums do not have as many hydrating properties as moisturizers, they are meant to be used in conjunction with the rest of your daily skincare regimen. You should cleanse and tone your skin, then apply your serum, and your moisturizer can be applied right over the serum. If you follow this daily routine your complexion will be glowing!   Now to get to the good stuff, how to pick a serum for you! Repêchage serums offer phenomenal results based on scientific advances in skincare and there is a serum for everyone! Some of the leading skincare concerns include diminishing the appearance of fine lines, repairing damage, brightening, clearing, and overall skin health and we have created serums to address each of these concerns.   For anti-aging benefits, the Vita Cura® Opti Lift Serum is formulated to lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles for immediate and dramatic results, giving your face an instant pick-me up! If you're looking to rejuvenate and repair your skin, then the Vita Cura® Cell Renewal Serum is for you! This serum helps promote cellular repair, improve circulation, and provide protection from oxidative damage. The key ingredient in this serum, Thermophyllus, provides powerful enzymatic protection and DNA repair. For those that experience hyperpigmentation, the breakthrough Biolight™ Brightening Skin Correct Serum contains three unique peptides clinically proven to rapidly help brighten and even skin tone due to the sun, age, acne scars and hormonal changes. If you have more problematic skin, the Hydra Medic® Beta Hydroxy Serum has got you covered; it penetrates pores to help control acne blemishes and help stop breakouts before they start. And if you’re looking to provide your skin with a large dose of nutrients to keep your skin in its healthiest possible state, then the C-Serum Seaweed Filtrate will indulge your skin with a highly concentrated seaweed extract rich in vitamins, minerals amino acids and trace elements. If you haven’t used a serum before, I bet it's hard to believe that you ever lived without one!   With all the information we just went through, I am sure that you realized that just about everyone could reap the benefits of a facial serum! We all have areas of our skin that we would like to improve and serums are the way to achieve your desired results! Adding this beauty product into your daily beauty routine will only take a few extra moments but will provide big results! How to Correctly Apply an Eye Cream

June 12, 2013
Shiri Sarfati Shares how to correctly apply an eye cream - and see why simply rubbing it in can actually make it worse!     Hi I’m Shiri Sarfati, and I want to share my tip with you on how to apply an eye cream. People always ask about this and just because your eye cream is chocked full of great ingredients doesn’t mean it’s time to take a big scoop of it, rub it into your eyes, and goop it all over. What’s going to happen is your eyes with become red, irritated, and maybe swollen; also rubbing in your eye cream too strongly is going to manipulate your skin in the wrong ways and can actually cause further wrinkling of the skin, so we want to avoid that by applying our eye cream in the correct way.   First, we take our spatula, please see my video on why it’s important to use a spatula with you eye creams, and we’re going to use the Opti-Firm® Eye Contour Cream. This is such a great luxurious cream with antioxidants and wonderful seaweeds to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, help with the de-puffing around the eye area and dark circles. So, we’re going to take the spatula, take a nice, little scoop of the cream, apply it onto our fingers and just lightly tap around the eye area using what we call in the esthetic world, tapotement movements. You’re going to tap rapidly around the eye contour area; this is really great for helping increase circulation around the eye area and helps with reducing the appearance of wrinkles as well, without tugging at your skin. And then what I like to do is take a little of the eye cream and use it between the brows, this area is called the corrugator, which is known for getting the furrowing of the brow. We just want to loosen this area up with a little bit of friction and nice upward and outward movements, and then we can also do a little scissor movement around the forehead area to relieve any stress and tension. Bring down the eye cream in nice, circular, gentle movements and you can also do what we call a figure 8, you just make a figure 8 around the eye area and just use a few more light, circular movements with some more tapping around the eye area, and viola!   You can do that for 2-3 minutes, twice a day for great looking, brighter, more youthful looking eyes.   I hope you enjoyed this tip, please do leave your comments below if you did! Also, let me know if you have pressing beauty questions on your mind and hopefully you will see them in one of my next videos. Thank you so much!

Does each day get busier than the next? Are you feeling stressed? Well, let’s face it we can all use some alleviation from the tension that we have from our everyday lives, this is even more crucial if you suffer from the extraordinarily common disease of chronic migraines. As June is Migraine Awareness Month, this is a special post to help bring tips for relieving tension through lymphatic massage and even better yet, we have some exciting events this month where you can experience a lymphatic massage and a portion of the treatment proceeds will go to the Migraine Research Foundation (MRF)!   Facial massage is one of the ancient methods of healing. The ancient cultures of China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and India utilized massage as a form of therapeutic medicine, and benefits can still be gained from it today! Individuals with migraines often suffer from debilitating pain and with no cure available alleviating treatments are their main escape from symptoms. With about 14 million people experiencing chronic daily headache, treatments are very high in demand. While lymphatic massage is not a cure, it is known to alleviate tension and it is certainly a nice way to pamper yourself! Lymphatic massage uses light pressure to help remove the lymphatic fluid that harbors bacteria, infection, toxins and waste out of your body. The benefits of this particular type of massage are unbelievable! It can often help those who suffer from chronic aches, pains, and illnesses, making this treatment ideal for those with migraines. Additional benefits include stimulating circulation, relaxing the nerves, oxygenating the skin tissues, and easing muscle tension.   In honor of Migraine Awareness Month, Repêchage has partnered with the Migraine Research Foundation (MRF) to create a new treatment, Repêchage “Sweet Relief.” This spa and salon service includes a head and face lymphatic massage designed to help ease stress and tension. The scalp massage is performed using the Repêchage Hydra-Amino18® Hair Spa Serum followed by a lymphatic face massage with the Repêchage C-Serum. Repêchage products deliver beautiful hair and skin while the massage delivers peace of mind so that you can feel good and look good! And to make this treatment truly special, salons and spas that are offering this service will donate a portion of the proceeds to MRF during June to help support migraine research for treatment options.   Numerous spas are showing their support for migraine awareness and are holding events where the treatment will be offered in June. To show your support and make your appointment for Repêchage “Sweet Relief,” please visit the Repêchage Spa Events page to locate a participating spa near you!   What spa service helps you ease tension and stress? How to Get Rid of an Emergency Pimple Before a Big Event

June 05, 2013
Shiri Sarfati shares her beauty tip for an emergency breakout. Please leave your comments below if you have a similar story- share it with us!     Hi I’m Shiri Sarfati, and I want to share with you my beauty tip for that emergency pimple removal right before a big event. We had a big event this Monday night at the Lang Lang Music Foundation Inaugural Gala at Carnegie Hall, which Repêchage was a proud sponsor, and of course the night before I had that pesky pustule or white head pop up.   So, I reached for the my Hydra Medic® Clear Complexion Drying Lotion, and actually our Hydra Medic® line was featured on last week’s Today Show, nationwide, so it was really exciting. This drying lotion is phenomenal; it has sulfur and salicylic acid. You just open up the bottle, it has a little sharp edge to it and you put it directly on the zit and leave it on over night, even though it probably won’t be so glamorous, but hopefully the lights will be off so no one will notice!   And I have to say this, please, please, please close this very tight, air tight! This product is a drying lotion, so it will dry out your zit but it will also dry out in the bottle if you don’t close it tightly in between uses. A little quick tip, if it does by any chance dry out in the bottle, what I do is take my Hydra Medic® Astringent, put a few drops in the bottle, shake it up well and it’s good as new! Also, you should shake the bottle in-between uses as well.   So on cleansed skin, put this directly on the pustule and you’ll leave it on overnight and wake up in the morning and cleanse your skin and that zit will be gone and you will look beautiful for your big night out!

When Should I Start Using Anti Aging Products?

May 31, 2013
130531_Family Starting to notice fine lines and dark spots? Are crows feet suddenly appearing around your eyes? When is the right time to start using anti aging products in your daily beauty routine? We have the inside scoop on how you can stay gorgeous and structure your skincare regimen for life!   First, we must of course talk about prevention! For anti aging purposes it is always easier to prevent rather than reverse and the sooner you start assessing your skin concerns and addressing them, the healthier your skin will be in the long run. The best way to prevent aging is by following a daily skincare regimen at every age. Your beauty routine should include cleansing, toning, a serum and a moisturizer each day. And the final product is key; the most important preventative care is wearing a daily SPF foundation! The sun can cause skin damage and premature aging so it’s important to protect yourself! You should also schedule monthly facial treatments to address deeper skin concerns. Regular facials will allow a professional to focus on your areas of concern, provide a deep and thorough cleanse, utilize professional products and treatment masks, and recommend appropriate products as your skin changes. These facials and time with your skincare professional will help guide how to take care of your skin through each stage of your life.   Now it’s time to delve deeper and concentrate on when you will really need to focus your attention on using anti aging products, and it may be a little sooner than you expected; you should start your effort in your late twenties, but you can always start sooner of course! Now just because you are starting the anti aging process at this age it doesn’t mean that you will be using the same products as your grandmother, there are particular products that will help you combat the aging process in the most effective way for your age group.   When you’re starting this process in your 20s your skin could still be a bit on the oily side so using an exfoliating mask 2-3 times a week with cucumber oil which has proteolytic enzymes will help refine the skin and keep pores clean and clear, the Repêchage Hydra Refine® One-Minute Clarifying Mask is ideal for getting the job done. The mask has tiny spheres of rice bran wax and lactic acid that provides exfoliation while oil controlling seaweed, astringent lemongrass, fresh cooling cucumber, and blemish fighting lily of the valley leaves skin clean, clear, smooth and balanced. A light, daily moisturizer to hydrate, protect and start providing active anti aging ingredients like thiosomes and oxysomoes is also needed, such as the Hydra 4® Day Protection Cream.   As you approach your 30s its time to boost the nourishment that you’re giving to your skin as your body’s natural ability to renew itself begins to slow down. A perfect treatment is the Repêchage C-Serum Seaweed Filtrate, think of this as a multi-vitamin for your skin! C-Serum is a highly concentrated seaweed extract rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and trace elements which helps to prevent dehydration and fine lines while returning moisture to restore overall skin vitality. This power-packed serum with help give your skin the nutrients it will be craving. You can use this serum right under your daily moisturizer.   Once you reach your 40s you’ll want to start incorporating firming products into your daily beauty routine, a rich cream such as the Vita Cura® Triple Firming Cream will help improve skin elasticity along with skin texture and tone. A cream like this is a great introduction into firming products. As you transition into your 50s and beyond you should adopt a full line of anti aging products, this would be the time to start using all of the components of the Vita Cura® Collection, which is chocked full of anti-aging ingredients and exclusive seaweed, that has active ingredients to help nourish, hydrate, and tone your skin for a more youthful looking complexion. Biomimetic Messenger Pentapeptide and Marine Biopeptide help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin's firmness, and help increase elasticity. You may also start to see the effects of sun damage that occurred in your childhood appearing as hyperpigmentation, so you should incorporate some brightening products, such as the Biolight™ Brightening Miracle Mask to help target discoloration and even tone skin, revealing a gorgeous and glowing complexion!   Beauty at all ages is possible and it can be achieved by using the right products and taking care of yourself! It is never too early to start fighting the aging process! When did you start using anti aging product? Tell us about it in the comments below!

How To Repair Post Summer Sun Skin Damage

May 29, 2013
Shiri shares her tip for post Memorial Day sun damage! We know many of you have requested a video on how to use Rapidex® Marine Exfoliator With Phyto-Marine Actives so we hope this is helpful. Please share, like and comment below to let us know if you enjoyed this beauty tip.     Hi, I’m Shiri Sarfati and I hope everyone had a very enjoyable long weekend! Hopefully it involved some fun and sun, of course I hope you were armed with your SPF, but if you got some sun damage over the weekend I have the perfect anecdote to that spotting on the face; a favorite product of mine, Rapidex®, which actually stands for rapid exfoliation. This is a chemical exfoliation that utilizes marine hydroxy acids and alpha hydroxy acids. You just squeeze and twist the tub; it’s a unidose program, so you can never over exfoliate your skin, and we know that over exfoliation can yield more damage to your skin, so we always want to have controlled exfoliation, especially when it comes to chemical exfoliation.   What I love about this product is that it’s already a pre-saturated cotton swab and you can use this all over your face, neck, and décolleté, especially if you were wearing an unbuttoned shirt or v-neck shirt it’s really important to do this post summer exfoliation in the neck and décolleté area to make sure that we’re repairing any damage that we’ve done, and again you apply the product all over the face. Then, I love to take whatever is left over on the swab and simply swipe it along the tops of my hands, because of course as we know, the hands are always exposed in the winter, summer, spring, and fall and we can have a lot of sun damage on the hand area that will reveal our age. We don’t want to have dark spots or discoloration on our hands, so it’s really important to exfoliate.   Use this program 14 days on and 14 days off and remember if you are using Rapidex® you always want to use a daily SPF, just to have a nice protection, especially when you’re using a chemical exfoliation system.   So, this is a phenomenal product you can use for post summer damage and post sun damage to make sure you have balanced and wonderful, smoother looking skin that is clearer and has less of an appearance of hyperpigmentation around your areas of concern. This is a great post-summer, post-sun trick and I hope you enjoy the fabulous next couple of months. Also, make sure you wear your SPF, sunglasses, and always wear a hat to protect your skin from any environmental damage!

Beauty Myth: Oily Skin Does Not Need Moisturizer

May 24, 2013
OilySkin Those of us with oily skin fight the constant battle of reducing the shiny and greasy looking appearance that our skin can have. For many with this skin type, they shutter at the thought of putting anything on their skin for fear of more oil popping up, let alone a moisturizer that could increase the slick look they are trying to diminish! But are moisturizers really a culprit when it comes to oil production on the skin? No way! Healthy skin actually has a free flow of oils, so it is all about achieving the right balance. If you’re skipping out on a moisturizer you may actually be working against yourself and making your skin appear even oilier. By not applying moisturizer, your skin will try and compensate for the lack of hydration and produce more oils!   Oily skin is characterized by having an excess of oil or sebum, which lubricates the skin but does not provide moisture. While sebum comes out of the pores and has the ability to seal in moisture, moisturizers have ingredients that are actually able to provide hydration for the skin. Moisture is a key ingredient in the recipe for a healthy, glowing complexion, without it an overproduction of sebum can be triggered as your skin’s way of stopping moisture loss, leaving you looker more oily than usual. Now, if you have an oily skin type you are likely using cleansers and toners that can help reduce some of the sebum on your skin, making it dryer, but moisture can also be taken away along with the oil. These drying products can alter the acid mantle that protects your skin as well, making it more susceptible to dirt and bacteria, so you will need to hydrate and protect your precious skin. After using your other skincare products a moisturizer will help add back the hydration your skin is begging for, create a protective barrier, and aid in stopping your sebum production from kicking into overdrive!   To stop the over drying of your skin all together, you should us a soap-free face wash that still has enough power to help balance your oily skin, like the Hydra Refine® Cleansing Mousse. This product is formulated to deep cleanse and help eliminate pore-clogging oil without washing away all your moisture! It also contains, Lemongrass oil which helps to normalize oil production and reduce breakouts.   Moisturizers don’t need to be a heavy cream that makes your skin feel weighed down, scaring you away from ever touching it again. If you have an oily skin type you should ideally stay away from oil-based moisturizers and select a fantastic water-based product instead, like the Hydra Medic® Mattifying Moisturizer. This oil -free formula helps to prevent shine and control excess oil while reducing flakiness and adding moisture back into your skin. Zinc Oxide and Porprhyridium Micro-alga, unicellular seaweed, in the moisturizer work together to help regulate oil production, moisturize, and protect the skin, matting your complexion and leaving you beautiful and fresh faced!   Oily skin can also benefit from the nourishing and hydrating C-Serum Seaweed Filtrate. This highly concentrated seaweed extract is rich in vitamins, minerals amino acids and trace elements, making it like a multi-vitamin you can apply directly onto your skin. The light-weight formulation works to restore overall skin vitality by helping to prevent dehydration, which is important if you are using other products that are drying, and lock in moisture at the same time. This will help keep your skin healthy and hydrated, arming you with another tool to combat excessive oils.   By using the appropriate cleanser and moisturizer your skin will be able to achieve the healthy balance that you have been seeking! So, remember to keep your skin hydrated and always include moisturizer in your daily beauty regimen, even if you have oily skin! Do you use an oil-free moisturizer that helps keep your skin gorgeous? Tell us about it in the comments below!
