MYTH: You need to be super-aggressive when cleaning your skin to combat oiliness.
FACT: It’s not about being aggressive, it’s about choosing the right cleanser!
Scrubbing your skin 10 times a day isn’t going to help your oily skin problem. Rather, it’s about cleaning your face twice a day with a face wash that has oil-controlling ingredients. Laminaria saccharina seaweed and lemongrass oil, for example, are both natural ingredients that help reduce oil production and prevent breakouts. That’s why we’ve added them as the key ingredients in our Hydra Refine Cleansing Mousse for normal and oily skin. As a bonus, unlike many other ingredients used for oily skin, both won’t leave your skin dried out.
MYTH: Oily skin doesn’t need a moisturizer.
FACT: Oily skin requires a moisturizer daily to condition & nourish your skin.
Don’t believe the myth! Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you must skip out on moisturizing. Instead, it’s about finding a serum or moisturizer that will not only condition your skin but help control those excess oils, such as our Shine Control Serum. The oil fighting actives and matte finish of this serum also make it the perfect primer before your makeup, allowing your skin to be shine free all day!
MYTH: You should keep your skin bare and avoid makeup (especially during breakouts).
FACT: There are ingredients in makeup that can help your oily skin.
When it comes to choosing makeup, for oily skin there are two important things to look for: non-comedogenic & fragrance free. Non-comedogenic means that the products will not clog pores and will help prevent breakouts. Fragrance free is important if your oily skin is also sensitive or reactive. Products not marked as non-comedogenic or those that scream fragrances (i.e. “chocolate bronzer”), should be avoided! Instead, stick to mineral makeup with zinc oxide. Zinc oxide not only helps to protect your skin from the sun, but it also helps absorb excess oils!
